Diet Tips for Busy Working Professionals !!

" I really regret eating healthy today. "
                                                     - Said No One Ever

Last week I got a call from my brother, who is a busy professional, that since a few days he is feeling tired, fatigued and his energy levels have dropped down. As a nutritionist, I tried to apply my nutrition knowledge and analyzed that all this is due to his wrong eating habits. And if nothing is done to correct it then it can lead to serious problems. This is not only the case with him but with a lot of other working professionals too.
Working professionals get too involved in their work that at times they either skip their meals and then overeat or don't eat at all. This is not only wrong but is also very unhealthy and can lead to serious medical problems like diabetes, hypertension, headaches, nausea, dizziness, poor concentration, depression, anxiety, indigestion, gas, bloating and many more.
Frankly speaking, it is not at all difficult to manage your work and meals together. Just a few modifications in your lifestyle will ensure that you get the optimum nutrition within your strict timelines.
  • Don't skip your breakfast : Breakfast should be the first meal of the day and should never be missed. Instead of going for an elaborate meal, go in for some convenient and grab and go options like sandwiches, pancakes (our desi cheelas), porridges, breakfast cereals, fruits salad and eggs.
  •  Prepare in advance : Prepare in advance for the coming week and refrigerate so that your time is saved on weekdays.
  • Invest in grab-and-go snacks : Keep dry fruits or roasted snacks handy with you so that instead of indulging in heavy fried snacks you can have healthy options.
  • Don't eat and work : Both should not be done at the same time as it can lead to an increased portion size which in turn is disastrous for the waistline.
  •  Stay hydrated : Drink atleast 8-10 glasses of water everyday. This is the first and basic step towards a healthy lifestyle.
  • Choose healthy options at restaurants : Eating out is inevitable for any working professional but one should opt for healthy food options while eating out. Try to stick to grilled food over fried and have more of salads and fruits.
  •  Limit alcohol : As tempting as it can be to indulge is a happy hour drink after work, its one of the worst ways to add calories to your diet. While an occasional drink or two won't hurt, its important to moderate your alcohol consumption, especially if the rest of your diet is severely lacking.

Try incorporating these lifestyle modifications. If you take care of your body, you'll feel more productive and energetic throughout the day. It will also avoid your visits to the doctor and ongoing illnesses. When you take care of yourself, it is not just your health that benefits - your business will too.
